Fungal Infection
““Fungal Infection” is a striking drawing created by the artist Gimiro. The artwork features a figure, likely the artist himself, with his face tilted upward. Upon closer inspection, we can see that there are two faces depicted in the drawing. The first face, on the outermost layer, appears numb and expressionless. The second face, behind the first, is contorted in a scream. However, the screaming face is not fully visible because it is partially obscured by the numb face.
At the top of the figure’s head, there is an explosive burst of shapes that could be interpreted as an explosion or even a kind of mushroom. This explosion in the brain could represent a variety of things, such as a moment of clarity, an epiphany, or a breakdown.
The title of the drawing, “Fungal Infection,” adds an additional layer of meaning. It suggests that the explosive burst on the top of the figure’s head could be a representation of a fungal infection within the brain, something that is often associated with mental illness.
The fact that the artist is schizotypal, a personality disorder characterized by unusual beliefs, behaviors, and social isolation, could be a significant factor in the creation of this artwork. The drawing could be interpreted as a reflection of the artist’s inner experience, where the screaming face represents the artist’s emotional turmoil, and the numb face represents the mask that the artist wears to hide his true feelings.”
