Aripiprazole
“Gimiro’s drawing “Aripiprazole” is a complex and disturbing piece of art that is rife with symbolism and hidden meanings. At the forefront of the drawing is a headless figure dressed in a double-breasted pinstripe suit, which could represent the artist’s own struggle with identity and the loss of his sense of self. The absence of a head suggests a disconnect from reality and the world around him.
In the top left corner of the drawing, there is a woman’s neck, which is presumably the artist’s mother, as this drawing was a gift to her.
Above the headless figure, in the top right corner, there is a drawing of “The Wreath of Children,” a famous old picture featuring four hanged dead children in a tree. This gruesome image could be a representation of the artist’s own sense of guilt and shame, as well as a reflection of the dark and disturbing thoughts that plague his mind.
In the middle of the drawing, towards the top left, there is a dog gasping for air being stamped on, which could represent the artist’s feelings of powerlessness and helplessness in the face of his own illness. The image of a building from “The Zone,” the video game the artist created himself, further suggests a sense of isolation and disconnection from the world around him.
Below the building, there is a set of broken teeth and a drawing of a tongue surgery being performed with a tweezer which could represent the side effects of the medication Aripiprazole, which the artwork is named after.
To the right of the headless figure, there are two Polaroid pictures, one featuring a scene from the movie “Come and See,” and the other featuring a man in agony with a sick comment below it
“Damn I hear that a decapitated head can live long enough to see a few seconds, imagine getting such a unique perspective only for it to be obfuscated by a set of stairs”
These images could represent the artist’s fascination with death and suffering, as well as his struggle to reconcile his own violent and disturbing thoughts.
The inclusion of the artist’s own face screaming while thumbs from unknown hands rib through his eyes could represent his own torment and agony, as well as a reflection of his own inner turmoil and pain.
To the right of the building, there is a highly detailed drawing of his lover’s eyes, which could represent the artist’s desire for intimacy and connection, as well as his own struggles with relationships.”
